Working With The Best I started in the field of roofing in 1979. In the early 80's I joined the Roofers Union and successfully completed my Apprenticeship Program in Residential and Large Scale Commercial Roofing. Over the years I worked for three of the largest roofing companies in the United States. In 1995 I successfully completed the test for my California Contractors License and started Rogers Roofing Co. In the beginning I did everything by myself. As the company grew and became more successful, I started hiring and training staff. I hired two key Foremen and the best roofers I could hire. I knew I had to have office staff so I brought in the best, my wife Kim, with over 20 years experience in management. Kim being in the office brought more structure and stability into the business. As our Company has grown over the years we finally incorporated which required a new state contractors license #. We are still the same quality company with myself (Dean Rogers) involved in every job. My new job as Supervisor/Estimator is much more rewarding. My knowledge of roofing and roofing codes has never been challenged. As a matter of fact, after well over 30 years of experience local building inspectors often call me for clarifications on codes. The State of California has contacted me for participation in review of all past codes. After thousands and thousands of satisfied customers, we have invested into employees performance bonus programs, updated trucks, gutter machines, tools and equipment for the future success of our company.I feel my hard work, compassion and quality workmanship are the reasons for our success today, tomorrow and in the future. We look forward to serving all of your roofing and rain gutter needs. Sincerely, Dean Rogers, Owner/Supervisor

Tile Roof Repair FAQs

How do I prevent leaks in a tile roof?

Preventing leaks in your tile roof requires a proactive approach:
  • Regular Inspections: Inspect your roof at least twice a year, in spring and fall, and after any significant weather event, such as a hailstorm or high winds. Look for missing or cracked tiles, loose or damaged flashing, and signs of wear and tear.
  • Prompt Repairs: Address any issues promptly. Even minor problems, like a few cracked tiles, can lead to leaks if left unattended.
  • Clean Gutters and Downspouts: Ensure gutters and downspouts are clean and free-flowing to allow proper water drainage. Clogged gutters can cause water to back up under the tiles and lead to leaks.
  • Trim Overhanging Branches: Keep tree branches trimmed away from the roof to prevent damage from falling debris and to allow sunlight to reach the roof, inhibiting moss and algae growth.
  • Professional Inspections: Consider having a professional roofing contractor inspect your roof every few years to identify potential problems that may not be visible to the untrained eye.

What is the warranty on tile roofs?

Tile roofs typically come with warranties that cover both the materials and the installation.
Material Warranty: Provided by the tile manufacturer and typically covers defects in the tiles themselves. The duration of the material warranty can vary greatly depending on the type of tile and the manufacturer. Some clay tile manufacturers offer lifetime warranties, while concrete tiles usually have warranties ranging from 20 to 50 years.
Workmanship Warranty: Offered by the roofing contractor and covers their installation workmanship, usually for a shorter period than the material warranty, often 1 to 10 years. It protects against leaks or problems caused by improper installation.
Before hiring a contractor and choosing tile materials, review the terms and conditions of both warranties carefully to understand the coverage and limitations.

Can I repair my tile roof myself?

While it might seem tempting to tackle a DIY tile roof repair, it's generally not recommended unless you have significant roofing experience and knowledge. Tile roofing involves specialized techniques, safety precautions, and an understanding of building codes to ensure proper installation and prevent leaks. Working at heights can be dangerous, and improper repairs can lead to further damage, leaks, and even void manufacturer warranties. It's best to entrust your tile roof repairs to qualified professionals.

What are the most common problems with tile roofs?

While tile roofs are generally durable, they can experience issues over time. Common problems include:
  • Cracked or Broken Tiles: Caused by impact from hail, falling debris, or foot traffic.
  • Loose or Slipping Tiles: Due to deteriorated underlayment, improper installation, or shifting roof structures.
  • Leaks: Around flashing, valleys, or penetrations if the installation wasn't done correctly or if the flashing has degraded.
  • Moss Growth: Especially in damp, shaded areas, leading to aesthetic issues and potential damage over time.
  • Efflorescence: A white, powdery deposit that can form on the surface of concrete tiles due to mineral salts being drawn out by moisture. While mostly cosmetic, it can indicate moisture issues that need addressing.
Regular inspections and prompt repairs by a qualified roofing contractor can help prevent these issues and extend the lifespan of your tile roof.
